One of the first things you should consider if you are thinking about becoming a personal trainer is where you are going to work once you reach your goal. There are 3 main options available to trainers. The first is to work at a local gym either receiving a flat salary or being paid per client. If you can afford it, the second option is to open your own facility and have clients come to you for training. The final option is the provide in-home training at the client's house.

Each of these three choices can have both benefits and disadvantages. Working for someone else may prevent you from reaching your full income potential, especially if you have many appointments but you are paid a flat rate for all of the time you spend. A shared fee arrangement may be more profitable if you have a dedicated list of customers who insist on you personally, and once you have gained a reputation this may be easier to arrange.

If you do have a good customer base already, opening your own business can be especially lucrative. You will need substantial financial resources for this choice, though. You will also need to find a location to rent or purchase, and you need to consider advertising and marketing costs so that you have enough customers to support your business. There is a lot of upkeep with owning your own business, so it's important to consider costs before you jump into this decision.

Personal training at home is becoming much more popular, and this method is not just reserved for the famous and the wealthy. Many people who are average also use these services in order to gain the motivation and the desired results that they are looking for. The only downside is that you must travel to the client, and that means an additional expense and time wasted in travel.

Regardless of the option you choose, a personal training career is a great choice if you want a job that lets you do what you love while you earn an income. There is a lot of flexibility with this job and being your own boss is a big perk! You also get to help others achieve their goals which can be very satisfying. You can fulfill your own dreams while helping others.
